The Medical Council of Physicians of the Republic of Armenia was officially established on February 28, 2019, in Yerevan. The Council was founded by Dr. Zaven Koloyan, a pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon and healthcare executive, with the vision of uniting medical professionals across the country to elevate the standards of healthcare and protect the professional interests of medical practitioners.
Before 2019, Armenia's medical community lacked a centralized, self-governing union capable of deeply integrating healthcare professionals into legislative, educational, and regulatory dialogues. Dr. Koloyan, leveraging his extensive background in hospital management and health administration, initiated the formation of the Council to bridge this gap. The founding assembly in Yerevan marked a turning point, bringing together specialists from various disciplines to establish a unified body dedicated to medical excellence.
Since its inception, the Council has operated as a public health non-governmental organization with a clear, unwavering mission:
To serve as the central hub for physicians in Armenia, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional solidarity.
To actively contribute to the improvement of the national healthcare system through evidence-based practice and policy advocacy.
To promote continuous medical education (CME) and ensure that Armenian medical professionals remain at the forefront of global medical advancements.

By strengthening partnerships with institutions like Yerevan State Medical University, the organization developed ongoing professional development programs to ensure Armenian physicians remained aligned with global medical advancements.
Embracing the modernization of healthcare, the Council initiated the development of centralized digital systems. This transformation focused on ensuring transparency in physician accreditation and managing the national digital registry, solidifying the Council's role as the definitive voice for doctors in Armenia.
